The Project

The Empire Wind 1 offshore wind farm, operated by Equinor, is located 15 to 30 miles south of Long Island, New York. It is set to provide clean energy to over 500,000 New York homes. The wind farm will feature a total of 54 offshore wind turbines. Gatemaster Offshore supplied specialised gate hinges, designed to meet the unique requirements of the offshore environment.

The Process

Smulders, a renowned market leader in designing and constructing steel foundations for offshore wind projects, selected Gatemaster Offshore to supply platform gate hinges.

The Gatemaster Offshore team leveraged their in-house design and engineering expertise to deliver a tailored solution. Key customisations included a specially designed stop position on the hinge for increased strength in the closed position and a customised earthing hole to meet the project’s specifications. In total, 378 closing hinges were supplied.
